I don't think bitcoin is a place to put your money. Its collapsed before and will probably again. Too many people have been burned, If it isn't in your hands you don't own it.

I agree. To me, at this time it is just a speculative investment tool. I am very content with physical silver.

Yeah, Ill stick with silver also. We just started to get into it. Just stuff off of eBay. Coins that are low priced and/or junk silver. Only dates that are readable. I want it to be so that it could be used in a SHTF after things settled down or for retirement. I am going to try and keep an eye out for gold jewelry, maybe broken necklaces and so on. Gold is to fricken expensive otherwise.

First Shots - 22 Subsonic Rounds

My hope was that a gun specialist would join our group and answer my question of
"Would it be better if our opening shots at intruders were with 22s using the new subsonic shells?"

Our newest member is a gun nut and Appleseed marksmanship trainer. He studied the problem and then added a twist.

We will have four guards on duty at the most likely contact point, our gate. His long thought out opinion is to use the 22s first. I can tell you from personal experience that they sound just like a BB gun.

But here is his twist. The BB gun sound can still be located. However, he says for a $100 kit you can make those long cylinder devices that go on the barrel that baffles the sound direction. Each baffle made will cost an extra $10 (for a mag light).

If we assume four guards are able to get off five shots prior to location, that is 20 free shots prior to receiving return fire. That ain't a bad head start especially considering we will be aiming at less than 50 yards!

Our medical folks say that a 22 round tumbling inside the body is more damaging than military rounds designed to go straight through a body.

I do not know if light flashes will be seen at night.

The cost of subsonic rounds is the same as regular rounds.

The .223/556 is a souped up 22 and tumbles also. I'd rather an intruder know I'm nearby..... keeps them wondering.

Sorry, I'm not gun savvy. Is the 223/556 subsonic or does it just do damage?

Damage. I am not going to say the .22 or the .223/5.56mm tumbles or doesn't tumble I just haven't seen proof. I have heard hearsay and I don't trust hearsay so until it is proven to me I am going keep the opinion that the bullet does the same as any other.

I have heard the subsonic .22lr and there is a noticeable distance but not a lot. Unless you can obtain a silencer I don't know. I do think that they would be great for hunting. It would be quiet enough to confuse a bad guy on location.

Sounds like your gun nut is the next best thing to a gun specialist. Something to consider is Gunsmithing correspondence courses and books on eBay. Start building a Gunsmithing library and toolbox at the retreat. YouTube videos are a good training aid also.
